When you think of the sports industry you really don’t put Fashion and Sports in the same sentence. If you take notice those times have changed, you will find more athletes that are hitting the red carpet with amazing runway fashions. As a follower of the tennis sport can I say that Serena Williams has changed the way viewers see a tennis match. The normal audience tunes in to watch the game but some viewers like me tune in to watch the game and see the latest fashion trend that Serena has brought to the tennis court.
No. 1-ranked Serena Williams announced last week in a news release: “It is with much frustration and deep sadness that I am having to pull out of the U.S. Open. Due to the surgery I had on my foot earlier this month, my doctors have advised against my playing so that my foot can heal.”
Serena Williams stands gracefully on the cover of SOBEFIT, along side another fashion trendsetter Dwayne Wade. Serena reveals in SOBeFiT Magazine’s September issue (on newsstands Aug. 25) another big reason she hates getting injured. “When I get injured it’s devastating because I know I won’t be able to wear heels. I’m practically in tears,” she says in the magazine’s September issue, never mentioning the fact that she would have to miss a match or tournament. She also hates working out, saying, “I’m the complete not-normal athlete, and I often wonder how I got into sports because I hate working out. I hate running. I hate all that stuff. I love doing my nails, reading, going to the movies and wearing high heels—the higher the better actually.”
We truly hope Serena a speedy recovery, we know that it’s hard to stay away from the heels. Pick up a copy of the SOBEFIT magazine today to read the rest of the article.
